Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy is a condition in which the nerves in the legs or arms (usually the feet or hands) that carry information to the brain are damaged, and this may cause you a great deal of suffering if you have it. This condition can be caused by a vast number of underlying diseases and problems, such as diabetes, Lyme disease, chemotherapy, certain medications, HIV, or simply from injuring the nerve in some way.
If you happen to have peripheral neuropathy, you will have a number of symptoms that will help you identify what your underlying problem may be. A few common symptoms are: nerve pain like numbness and tingling in your limbs, not being coordinated, feeling weak, loss of dexterity and even pain. Although there are a few dozen symptoms for the different types of peripheral neuropathy, it is likely that the symptoms you experience will be linked with the underlying disease. In order to try to cure these symptoms, you can try to cover up the pain with pills or you can do something to actually help the nerves to heal. There is a new treatment out that offers just that. This treatment utilizes a unique vasopneumatic approach that actually helps promote better nerve function.
In order to determine whether you have peripheral neuropathy and/or whether or not you are a suitable candidate for this unique approach, it is important to contact a qualified physician who is familiar with this procedure. Advanced Health Centers has aptly trained physicians who have been successfully utilizing this treatment technique. Their physicians will be able to examine you and determine whether your particular condition would likely respond to such a treatment.
Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
Diabetes is a lifelong battle for most people and if not properly taken care of, it can lead to more serious disorders or very severe complications. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is one condition that can develop in people suffering from diabetes. This is a fairly common complication of diabetes, because your nerves may have been damaged due to hyperglycemia, which is high blood sugar. It is a difficult and grueling task to constantly monitor your blood sugar levels and while it is an annoyance, it is very important to stay on top of your health, especially if you have a disease, to make sure that nothing worse will happen, especially if you have the ability to prevent it simply by taking better care of yourself.
There are many symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in diabetics but a select few are: nausea and vomiting, pain in the feet and legs, muscle cramps, numbness, weakness, tingling sensations, dizziness, light headedness and you may not even be able to feel hot or cold or if you get a small injury on your limbs, such as a blister or a paper cut. Many of the symptoms affecting your limbs, typically start at the legs and feet and extend upward toward the middle of the body over time, especially if treatment is not started soon.
Since the diabetes is causing the peripheral neuropathy, it is important to address that first. Because diabetes cannot be cured under normal circumstances, it is most urgent to maintain a healthy level of sugar in the blood and test yourself every day. Take your insulin or whatever diabetes medicine your doctor put you on and remember to stick to the regimen without straying as it is important to stay as healthy as possible.
As for the symptoms of peripheral neuropathy you may be experiencing, doctors may prescribe various medications to deal with the pain and numbness you may feel. They might prescribe anti-depressants and anti-seizure medication, as well as pain medications and pain reducing creams meant for the feet.
There is a new program available that uses an electrical signal and it is sent to the affected nerves in order to rejuvenate them, sort of like giving a dead car battery a jump and this procedure is said to work fairly quickly and is a good alternative to mere pain management. As with any program, there are going to be questions and with proper research, it is up to the individual person to choose what they want to do
